Becoven, Longstone, St Mabyn Bodmin, Cornwall, PL30 3DB

INFORMATION / DIRECTIONS

The property is located between the typical Cornish villages of St Mabyn and Blisland, each having a pub, church, PO and shop.  St Mabyn’s grocery store also sells daily papers, fresh bread, home baked pasties and meat from a local butcher (by order).  There are woodland walks along the River Camel less than 1 mile away but please note walking on adjoining farmland is restricted.

Local Attractions
The Camel Trail (a former railway) is 1 mile away where you can walk or cycle safely to Padstow via Bodmin and Wadebridge (bike hire available in all towns).  Bodmin moor (3 miles), grazed by wild ponies, cattle and sheep, offers peace and tranquillity where evidence of medieval past remains untouched, is perfect for walking or hiking.  Roughtor and Brown Willy (2 or the highest points in Cornwall) are easily accessible from the car park near Camelford.  Lanhydrock House (6 miles) is one of the National Trust’s finest examples of a Victorian house and is set in 400 acres of stunning gardens and woodland.  Visit the Eden Project (20 mins drive), famous for its enormous ‘greenhouses’ or The Lost Gardens of Heligan (20 miles) where you can spend the day discovering the beautiful lost valley and formal gardens

ST ENODOC CHURCH. CORNWALL. BURIAL PLACE OF SIR JOHN BETJEMAN (POET LAUREATE 1972-1984)

Eating out & other things to do locally

Blisland Inn, on the edge of the moor is well known locally for its fine selection of real ales and won the CAMRA Pub of the Year, also serves good bar meals in/outdoors overlooking the village green.

Horse riding across the moor is available at St Breward (3miles) where you can find The Old Inn, with an excellent restaurant reputation, as does the White Hart Inn, St Teath.  Why not try Rick Stein’s famous Seafood Restaurant in the ancient fishing port of Padstow.  A short ferry ride from there takes you across the estuary to the breathtaking beaches of Rock/Daymer and St Enodoc Golf Course, where the 12th Century church, the final resting place of Sir John Betjeman, (see picture above), lies nestled in the dunes.  A scenic trip along the north coast takes you to Port Isaac, the home of the Doc Martin series (also hosting The Old School Hotel Restaurant) Boscastle and Tintagel famous for its legendary King Arthur’s Castle.
If the theatre is preferred, there is a choice of the Hall for Cornwall (Truro) or the Theatre Royal (Plymouth), which also hosts the National Marine Aquarium.  If you prefer a more ‘hands on’ holiday, trout and salmon fishing are available locally within the fishing season, or try surfing at Polzeath - lessons, boards and wetsuits all on hire.
